Where Winds Meet — “As Snow Falls” Version 1.5 Update: Everything You Need to Know

The winds have shifted. The temperature has dropped. And the world of Where Winds Meet is about to change in ways that no wanderer could have predicted. Everstone Studio and NetEase have officially unveiled Version 1.5, titled “As Snow Falls” — and it’s not just a seasonal facelift. This is a full-scale content expansion that reshapes the jianghu in meaningful, lasting ways.

The update went live on April 2, 2026, following a rolling maintenance window from 5:00 to 10:00 UTC+8. If you’ve already logged back in, you know the world feels different. If you haven’t — here’s everything that’s waiting for you.

A World Transformed by Winter

The most immediately striking change in Version 1.5 is the environment itself. The familiar landscapes of the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms era have been blanketed in snow. This isn’t just a texture swap — Everstone has implemented dynamic snowfall systems that affect visibility, terrain traversal, and even NPC behavior. Villages hunker down. Merchants adjust their routes. Bandits become more desperate, and more dangerous.

Snow accumulates on rooftops, bridges, and mountain paths. Footprints trail behind you and fade over time. Rivers partially freeze, opening new crossing points while closing others. The world feels alive in a way that goes beyond cosmetic changes — it feels like the seasons actually matter.

For a game that has always prided itself on environmental storytelling, this is a natural evolution. But it’s also a technical achievement. The volumetric snow effects, the way light scatters through falling flakes during golden hour, the crunch of fresh powder underfoot — these details add up to something genuinely immersive.

New Region: The Frozen Reaches

Version 1.5 introduces a new explorable area that extends the northern frontier of the existing map. The Frozen Reaches is a harsh, unforgiving territory defined by jagged ice formations, abandoned military outposts, and ancient temples half-buried in snow. It’s a region steeped in lore — remnants of a forgotten dynasty that collapsed under the weight of its own ambition.

Exploration here is deliberately challenging. Visibility drops during blizzards. Stamina drains faster in extreme cold. And the enemies you encounter aren’t the usual roadside bandits — they’re hardened survivors, exiled warriors, and something else entirely that lurks beneath the frozen surface.

The Frozen Reaches also introduces new points of interest, hidden caves, and environmental puzzles that reward players who take the time to investigate rather than rush through. There are stories etched into the ice here — literally and figuratively.

Combat Refinements and New Weapon: The Rope Dart

Combat in Where Winds Meet has always been its crown jewel, and Version 1.5 polishes it further. The most significant addition is the Rope Dart — a new weapon class that fills a unique niche in the game’s martial arts system. Agile, discreet, and devastatingly versatile, the Rope Dart can be thrown from range like a meteor strike or wielded up close with serpentine precision.

It’s a weapon that rewards timing and spatial awareness. In PvE, it excels at crowd control and gap-closing. In PvP, it introduces a new layer of mind games — the Rope Dart’s unpredictable trajectory makes it difficult to read and even harder to counter. Early community reactions suggest it’s already shaking up the meta in meaningful ways.

Beyond the new weapon, existing combat systems have received balance passes. Sword and spear users will notice tighter hit registration. Dual blade combos flow more naturally. Fan wielders have received quality-of-life improvements to their healing rotations. And the Mo Blade — the heavy, devastating glaive — now has improved hyper-armor frames during its slower wind-up attacks, making it more viable in group content.

Story Content: The Winter Campaign

The narrative thread of Version 1.5 follows a new questline called “The Winter Campaign” — a multi-chapter story arc that weaves political intrigue with personal stakes. Without spoiling too much, the plot centers on a power vacuum in the northern territories, a mysterious figure known only as the Snow Phantom, and a conspiracy that reaches all the way back to the imperial capital of Kaifeng.

The writing continues to be one of Where Winds Meet’s strongest assets. Dialogue is sharp, choices feel consequential, and the cinematics — particularly a standout sequence involving a duel on a frozen lake at dawn — are among the best the game has produced.

Players who have completed the Hexi storyline from Version 1.4 will find direct narrative connections. Everstone is clearly building toward something larger, and “As Snow Falls” feels like a critical chapter in that overarching story.

Quality of Life and System Updates

Beyond the headline features, Version 1.5 brings a substantial list of quality-of-life improvements:

  • Improved fast travel system — new waypoints in the Frozen Reaches and streamlined loading between regions
  • Gear enhancement overhaul — reduced RNG frustration with a new pity system for upgrade attempts
  • Housing system expansion — new winter-themed furniture sets, garden decorations, and the ability to place snow-resistant structures
  • Guild content — new cooperative challenges designed for the Frozen Reaches, including a 12-player raid encounter against a massive ice-bound boss
  • Performance optimizations — particularly for PS5 and lower-end PC configurations, with improved frame pacing during heavy particle effects (like, say, a blizzard)

Community Events and Rewards

To celebrate the launch of Version 1.5, Everstone is running several limited-time events. The Discord Goose Store (launched March 25) continues to offer exclusive rewards through the Goose Feather currency system. New login bonuses, daily challenges tied to the winter theme, and a community-wide exploration milestone event round out the festivities.

There’s also a Twitch Drops campaign running alongside the update, offering exclusive cosmetic items for viewers who tune into partnered streams.

The Bigger Picture

Where Winds Meet launched with a bold promise: to redefine what an open-world Wuxia RPG could be. With each update — from the initial release through Qinghe, Kaifeng, Hexi, and now the Frozen Reaches — Everstone has steadily delivered on that promise. Version 1.5 isn’t just more content. It’s proof that the studio understands what makes this game special: atmosphere, consequence, and the feeling that every step through the jianghu matters.

“As Snow Falls” is available now on PC (Steam, Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5, iOS, and Android. The winds are cold. The path is treacherous. And the snow is already falling.

Time to walk it.
